Key Event: WSF Presents Music & Healing

August 8, 2019

We have long known that music has healing power. In fact, the traditional Chinese character for medicine combines the characters for music and herb – recognizing the importance of nutrition and music in our health.

So, it is a natural fit for World Surgical Foundation to collaborate with two renowned musicians to raise awareness and funding for the healing work WSF provides throughout the world.

Join us on Sunday, 15 September for a performance by Odin Rathnam and Robert Koenig. This exclusive concert is the WSF Key Event for 2019.

2:00 PM – VIP Reception, The Forum Auditorium Green Room
3:00 PM – Music & Healing Concert, The Forum Auditorium

About The Musicians

Odin Rathnam

Since his critically acclaimed Lincoln Center debut in 1993, violinist Odin Rathnam has established an international career of remarkable versatility and depth. As an orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, he has received unanimous praise from audiences and critics for his “innate musicianship,”  “brilliant technique” and “recalling the great violinists of past generations.” In 2011, he was the recipient of the DES Cultural Prize in Copenhagen, and made his debut as conductor and soloist with the Randers Chamber Orchestra, in three performances of Piazzolla’s and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Odin Rathnam’s artistry, charisma, and passion are credited by many for leading the outstanding artistic development of the Harrisburg Symphony, where he served as concertmaster with distinction for 21 years. In 1995, he also created the critically acclaimed chamber ensemble, Concertante, with whom he performed and recorded for 7 years.

Robert Koenig

Pianist Robert Koenig has established a reputation as a much sought-after collaborative pianist and chamber musician. He performs regularly in major centers throughout the world with many of this generation’s most renowned musicians. Recent engagements have included performances at Carnegie Hall in New York, The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Louvre Museum in Paris, and Royal Festival Hall in London. Events: WSF presents The Capitol Steps

June 24, 2014

The Capitol Steps, a Washington DC-based comedy troupe that began as a group of Senate Staffers, will present a show based on songs from their current album “Fiscal Shades of Gray” in the Pennsylvania Ballroom at Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, 148 Sheraton Drive, New Cumberland, PA on 21 September 2014.

The Capitol Steps have been a Washington, DC institution for over thirty years, providing a unique blend of musical and political comedy to our Nation’s Capitol and more. Each show consists of tasteful lampooning guaranteed to leave both sides of the political spectrum laughing. The troupe started in 1981, when John McCain was only 63 years old! Since then, they have appeared on “The Today Show,” “Nightline,” “CBS Evening News” and for many years in specials for National Public Radio.

Their show is constantly changing, strenuously bi-partisan, and includes songs about everything in the news, such as “Putin on a Blitz,” “You Can’t Hide This Biden Guy,” and “Greece! The Musical.”

If you’ve ever wanted to see Barack Obama sing a show tune, Nancy Pelosi sing a rock song, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie do a classical ballet, this might just be the show for you!

In addition to the performance, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided as well as a silent auction taking place. All proceeds to benefit the World Surgical Foundation.

Doors open at 1:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased from Whitaker Center. For ticketing information, visit whitakercenter.org or call +1 717 214ARTS (2787).
